What Our
Guests Say

An absolutely wonderful experience!

The process from booking the tour to the pre-tour phone call from Mandy, the Tour Leader, to the check-in at Essendon, the arrangements on arrival and all the local guides and drivers at all of our destinations, to our return to Essendon was first class. The professionalism, warmth and efficiency of Mandy made the tour seamless, comfortable, casual and fun. Greg, our pilot, was superb – professional and four perfect landings. A visit to Southern Ocean Lodge has to be experienced to be believed!

Everything you need to know

Flinders, King and Kangaroo Islands are each hours apart by commercial routes, so almost nobody visits all three in one trip. Air Adventure’s Southern Ocean Island Hop links them by private aircraft over five days, removing the backtracking through capital city airports that independent travel would demand.

The reward is contrast: Flinders brings rugged mountains and empty beaches, King Island brings dairy farms and kelp harvesting traditions, and Kangaroo Island brings wildlife encounters and a stay at the luxury, reimagined Southern Ocean Lodge. Seeing all three back to back shows the contrast these Australia’s southern islands offer.

The two islands couldn’t feel more different. King Island, in Bass Strait between Victoria and Tasmania, is small, quiet and built around produce: think King Island Dairy cheeses, grass-fed beef and wild kelp harvested straight off the coast. Few travellers make it there at all.

Kangaroo Island, off South Australia, is larger and, often called “Australia’s Galapagos” for its concentration of native wildlife and dramatic coastal scenery. It also carries more of a luxury profile, thanks to Southern Ocean Lodge. One thing is for sure, once you stay here you won’t want to leave!

In short: King Island for authentic, low-key produce culture, Kangaroo Island for wildlife and scenery on a grander scale. On this tour, guests get both.

Kangaroo Island is renowned for its incredible wildlife highlight. Guests can expect sea lion colonies at Seal Bay, wild koalas, echidnas and kangaroos roaming the island’s bushland, along with abundant birdlife along the coast.

Flinders Island adds its own quieter drawcards, with pristine beaches, coastal birdlife and a rugged mountain backdrop that feels a world away from the mainland.

King Island is less about wildlife and more about what the ocean provides, its surrounding waters support the kelp harvest and seafood that shape much of the island’s produce culture.

Together, the three islands give a broad picture of what makes Australia’s southern coastline so distinct.

Southern Ocean Lodge is one of Australia’s most awarded luxury lodges, perched on Kangaroo Island’s clifftops with uninterrupted views of the Southern Ocean.

The original lodge was destroyed in the 2020 island bushfires and has since been rebuilt on the same site by its original architect, reopening as what many are calling an even more refined version of the property guests once loved.

Staying here means suites with private views, an incredible dining experience built around local produce, and a genuine sense of remoteness, with nothing between the lodge and Antarctica but open ocean.

Flinders Island, King Island and Kangaroo Island have no direct commercial flights connecting them.

Travelling independently means flying back into a capital city hub between each island, turning what should be a smooth five-day trip into a logistical exercise spanning multiple states and connections.

Air Adventure removes that problem by flying you directly between the islands in our private aircraft. The result is a single, continuous adventure rather than three separate holidays stitched together, with every flight, transfer and stay already organised for you. There is nothing left for your to do except sit back, relax and enjoy the adventure.

Every flight on this tour is included. So from when you depart Essendon Airport you’ll be seamlessly linking every destination with ease.

The Southern Ocean Island Hop is a fully inclusive five-day tour by private aircraft.

Every flight between Melbourne, Flinders Island, King Island and Kangaroo Island is included, along with all accommodation, meals and guided touring on each island.

Guests are accompanied throughout by a dedicated tour leader and an experienced commercial pilot, flying aboard Air Adventure’s Pilatus PC-12. On Kangaroo Island, guests stay at the luxury Southern Ocean Lodge.

On Flinders and King Island, accommodation and touring are arranged with local guides, providing genuine access to each island rather than a generic tour bus experience. Transfers, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all covered, so there’s nothing left to organise.

Truly All Inclusive

Forget your wallet … flights, accommodation, meals, tours, transfers – all taken care of!
